Initial situation

The number of medical devices used in the operating theater is increasing. Data volumes are also on the rise. Surgical staff have to keep an eye on a surfeit of highly specialized technology. Often it is difficult to keep everything in view: monitors may be inconveniently positioned in locations where staff find them hard to see. The operation of individual devices usually takes up a lot of time and always places the patient's safety at risk. When the IT has to be adapted to conditions in the operating theater, the result is a lack of flexibility in changeover times. If there is no system with corresponding information about spatial conditions in the operating theater, workflow and communication processes are impeded both inside and outside.

Challenges

The challenge is to create standardized procedures and workstations that are as uniform as possible so that workflows are simplified and the surgical team can operate all the equipment. The user interface must be intuitive and easy to operate. Predefinable equipment settings and transfer scenarios can improve the exploitation of operating theater capacities.
